The International Classification of adult underweight, overweight and obesity according to BMI (Body Mass Index)

BMI Categories for Indians:

  • Underweight = 19 or lower
  • Normal body weight = 19 – 22.9
  • Overweight = 23 – 24.9
  • Obese = 25 – 29.9
  • Severe obesity = 30 – 32.5
  • Grossly obese = BMI of 32.5 or greater

BMI Categories for others:

  • Underweight = 18.5 or lower
  • Normal body weight = 18.5 – 24.9
  • Overweight = 25 – 29.9
  • Obese = 30 – 34.9

Was looking for a properly qualified dietitian for my diet consultation; a colleague of mine suggested RD Prachi Bohora. Her qualification was very impressive like the results of her diet plans but still initially was reluctant to approach her because of less experience. But after my first consultation with her I realised myself being completely wrong and judging on the basis of experience alone.
